The 3D extension must be installed on the gvSIG version it was developed, which is indicated in the download table of the extension. This version of gvSIG must be correctly installed in the PC.

The installation steps are:

  •  WINDOWS:
      • Download the EXE file from the Downloads section and execute it.
      • If the installation process doesn’t automatically find the folder where the correct version of the gvSIG application is installed, it has to be manually indicated. For instance, in the case of a 3D extension for gvSIG 1.10 in Windows XP, the folder could be C:\Program Files\gvSIG 1.10
  • LINUX:
      • Download the BIN file from the Downloads section and execute it.
      • If the installation process doesn’t automatically find the folder where the correct version of the gvSIG application is installed, it has to be manually indicated. For instance, in the case of a 3D extension for gvSIG 1.10 in Ubuntu 9.10, the folder could be /home/user/gvSIG_1.10
      • Install the 'mesa-utils' package. Open a terminal and execute:
        • sudo apt-get install mesa-utils (the administrator's password will be required)
      • Check that the graphics hardware acceleration is enabled, executing:
        • glxinfo | grep 'direct rendering'
      • The expected result is:
        • direct rendering: Yes
      • If the result is different (direct rendering: No), the graphic card drivers must be installed properly.
      • The next step is to check the OpenGL version available, executing the command:
        • glxinfo | grep 'OpenGL version string'
      • The result must be something like:
        • OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 256.53
      • In this particular case, the available OpenGL version is 3.3.0. We need this value to be 1.5 or higher, otherwise the extension will not work.
  • MAC:
      • There is a gvSIG 1.10 MacOSX distribution with the 3D extension included that can be downloaded in Downloads development vers. - Extensions. The installation is easy; download the .dmg file and execute it, then copy the files in the applications folder.
