The Network extension for gvSIG 1.9 also works on gvSIG 1.10.
3D extension
Description
Extension for visualization and management of three-dimensional views in gvSIG. It allows the creation of 3D Views, XYZ-projected as well as spherical (planetary). Local and remote data sources can be loaded as layers on them, and displayed using most of the options available in 2D like transparency, labeling, legends, etc.
Credits
The following organizations have participated in the 3D extension for gvSIG:
- Sponsor:
- Regional Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport of Valencia (Spain)
- gvSIG Association
- Developers:
- Prodevelop Integración de tecnologías
- Institute of Control Systems and Industrial Computing (AI2). Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain)
- IVER Tecnologías de la Información
Install Instructions
The 3D extension must be installed on the gvSIG version it was developed, which is indicated in the download table of the extension. This version of gvSIG must be correctly installed in the PC.
The installation steps are:
- WINDOWS:
- Download the EXE file from the Downloads section and execute it.
- If the installation process doesn’t automatically find the folder where the correct version of the gvSIG application is installed, it has to be manually indicated. For instance, in the case of a 3D extension for gvSIG 1.10 in Windows XP, the folder could be C:\Program Files\gvSIG 1.10
- LINUX:
- Download the BIN file from the Downloads section and execute it.
- If the installation process doesn’t automatically find the folder where the correct version of the gvSIG application is installed, it has to be manually indicated. For instance, in the case of a 3D extension for gvSIG 1.10 in Ubuntu 9.10, the folder could be /home/user/gvSIG_1.10
- Install the 'mesa-utils' package. Open a terminal and execute:
- sudo apt-get install mesa-utils (the administrator's password will be required)
- Check that the graphics hardware acceleration is enabled, executing:
- glxinfo | grep 'direct rendering'
- The expected result is:
- direct rendering: Yes
- If the result is different (direct rendering: No), the graphic card drivers must be installed properly.
- The next step is to check the OpenGL version available, executing the command:
- glxinfo | grep 'OpenGL version string'
- The result must be something like:
- OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 256.53
- In this particular case, the available OpenGL version is 3.3.0. We need this value to be 1.5 or higher, otherwise the extension will not work.
- MAC:
- There is a gvSIG 1.10 MacOSX distribution with the 3D extension included that can be downloaded in Downloads development vers. - Extensions. The installation is easy; download the .dmg file and execute it, then copy the files in the applications folder.
System requirements
Minimum requirements: |
Pentium 4 CPU or equivalent AMD / 512 MB RAM / Graphics card compatible with OpenGL 1.5 |
Advisable requirements: | Intel Core2Duo CPU or equivalent AMD / 2 GB RAM / Graphics card compatible with OpenGL 2.0 (Nvidia or AMD) |
Operating systems: | Windows - Linux - Mac OSX Tested in Windows XP and Windows 7, Ubuntu Linux (9.10 and 1.10 versions) and Mac OSX Leopard and Snow Leopard (with Intel CPU). |
- It is very important to have the drivers for the graphic card correctly installed. We recommend installing the latest available version for your card before executing the extension.
- In the case Linux OS is used, the libc library installed should be version 2.4 or higher. Lower versions (for instance, Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake) will cause problems.
- It is also advisable to use Nvidia graphic cards in Linux OS as they have better support for its drivers in this plattform.
- It is strongly advised to not execute the extension on virtualized/emulated systems, there is a big performance hit, and can lead to errors that don't show in a native environment.

Other notes
Important note for gvSIG 1.9 users
The following error has been detected within the gvSIG 1.9 uninstaller: it deletes the default symbols and labeling styles from the user directory, so those projects (.gvp files) that uses some of this symbols or styles don’t load properly anymore with any other gvSIG installation (e.g. gvSIG 1.10).
To solve this we recommend to uninstall and install again gvSIG 1.10.
